Example Journal â⬠Creative Writing Brainstorming Exercise
Example Journal ââ¬â Creative Writing Brainstorming Exercise Free Online Research Papers Example Journal Creative Writing Brainstorming Exercise JE#1- l connected immediately with the parson because of his analytical nature. Unlike the other characters he did not take things as they came he instead took a less optimistic perspective and discounted the quick fix so to speak as ineffective at best and recommended a different course of action through penitence. He acted smarter and significantly more cautious two very important qualities. JE#2 We would be on a journey to Denver, Colorado. First of all is the punk a raunchy skater with a bawdy sense of humor. He, as you would expect, would spend his time at the skateparks. He would eat fast food, sleep cheap, and in traditional style have a skateboard in one hand and his duffel in the other. Not that I would have any experience with this. Next would be the elder gentleman with a short temper and an everlasting dirty look. This man would be on vacation most likely with his wife and he definitely would rather be at home right now. Throughout the course of the trip he may enjoy himself, but he will not show it. Next, the college student: smart, aware, and generally a good kid. He knows a lot about his selected major, well say engineering, and he has brought a laptop along to facilitate his reading. Finally there is the middle-aged single man. Hes had a lot of fun, and been in the same position as the college student, but now hes middle aged, sarcastic, and gaining we ight; perhaps he may know how to have fun still, but its hard to decide at this point. As they all pile in to the elder gentlemans venerable VW bus and head to Denver, they cant help but think that this trip will be exciting. The bus leaves as the middle-aged man and the skater exchange low blows using the best irony. JE#3 I would have been a serf because it seems the most exciting position. We have the money and all we have to do is live the simple life. We can move up, but we really dont have much to lose. JE#4 I agree with Ernest. Anyone unable to comprehend the most basic aspects of grammar and punctuation is already severely limited in their capabilities, so any type of extra credit seems completely ludicrous. Once you are able to write a paper that would meet the harshest grammatical standards, you can then be allowed to rewrite the rules in a more stylistic manner. Any writing that flows well is always acceptable, however an integral understanding of the ways of t he language is required in order to effectively author such a document. JE#5 When I wake up, I know instantly how much sleep I got the previous night if im very tired, i got 6-7 or more than 10 hours to sleep. Otherwise I got less than 6 or 7-10. JE#6 Ill be just fine, pretending Im not. Im far from lonely and its all that Ive got. Indie emo is about the third most phenomenal music ever. The Used happens to have some screaming in there, but screamo is good too. In fact, almost all indie music is good bands like Death Cab for Cutie and the Blood Brothers but not all emo music is good bands like And Then I Turned Seven and Cute is What We Aim For (even though their name ends with a preposition). Some emo bands are in denial theyre emo, but indie is more of a snobbish-type thing people like to say that they are indie. People like me. Emo, however, isfrequently made attacked, so many emoists find themselves contained to the closet, coming outside only in fair weather. Im sad today, but Im not sure why. JE#7 A report over something youve learned, if it is written well, provides an opportunity for everyone to learn a little. If it is written poorly, information must be extracted in the same manner that a dentist extracts teeth from a mouth. Some people write in the second style their entire life and never have any desire to improve because in their own minds they are good writers. For them, writing is not a learning process at all merely something they have to do to prove that they know whatever it is that they have learned. The alternative is to write as well as you can, improving with every word. Every time writers such as myself learn a new word, we love to incorporate it into our next piece, and we are willing to do what it takes to get that word in there. We have transcended the basic rules of grammar and punctuation to achieve a level of writing nirvana: all writing is very stylistic using all or none of the rules of grammar as we see fit, and incorporating literary devices s uch as allusions and allegories and (evidently) alliterations. JE#8 We decided to leave today. I wanted to stay because I know the house will be fine, and if it isnt, I dont know whether I want to come back or not. We didnt even have time to pack up all our posessions. We threw the clothes we could fit in all the suitcases and duffel bags I could find. We all piled into the car and left by way of the highway, and the traffic was so bad on the evacuation routes I knew if the tornado made it to land that day it wouldnt matter whether we had left or not. JE#9 Id be in Slytherin because that sounds like the most fun. They seem to be the pranksters so to speak, and not all of their fun is good and clean. Underneath their poor reputation, it sounds like a lot of the more alternative kids; the skaters so to speak. JE#10 Being sick is not a pretty feeling, however Ive noticed that after I throw up (multiple times if necessary), I tend to feel a lot better. Yesterday, for example, I had to deposit about nine separate groups in the sink at a friends house. After my final episode, I began to feel better and I noticed that I stopped feeling sick after about five minutes. Eating food and drinking water made a big difference, as did the mental part repeatedly telling myself that I had thrown up all that I could and that I was about to get better made me feel much less sick. Eventually, my friend told me we had to go and helped me to my car. I opened the door. I sat down. I looked up. I was good. I felt much better at this point, and off we went! We went to Shawnee Mission Park for a theater function that us and many other people could have sworn started at six oclock, but evidently was happening right after school. We drove around and looked, talked to a park ranger, and eventually left. I took him home, took myself home, and went to sleep after eating three (and eventually a fourth) oreos. Yesterday was a fun day, and today I woke up with the most hellish taste in my mouth you can imagine. JE#12 Ive always been partial to fiction, and as a result Ive become quite interested in plays and shows. Most recently, however, ive been a fan of nonfiction in the form of technical writings about Cisco routers and UNIX systems administration and Flash and PHP. Ive decided that my imagination is providing quite well for itself, and directing my eyes to more technical and higher level writings is not only improving my formal writing skills but also my web design skills. JE #13 So them RX-7s sure are nice cars. Its nice to be driving an rx-7 again as of a month ago today. Anyway, this is about Old Settlers and the many subcultures of suburban Olathe. Last night, I had to go out to eat with my grandparents for my uncles birthday, which was a lot of fun, but I was more interested in making an appearance at Old Settlers. Eventually I made it, and immediately found some fellow skaters standing in front of the 9-stair by the courthouse. Every year since about 8th grade Old Settlers has been a chance for me to go and show off the fact that Im a skater. Ever since 9th grade Ive gone because I can get away with skating the stairs. And to show off. The question is why are any (all) of us interested in that? We are generally the quiet kids that stay out of the spotlight, being social only at the skatepark. For some reason, this city-wide event makes us all more social. Perhaps it seems safer so to speak everyones in a good mood and nice. Like a little town. In the 50s . JE #14 The medias coverage is about a six on the richter scale. I didnt really see much of it because my working, skating, and extensive homework take priority to television, which I try to avoid anyway. Included information that I saw covered financial losses and displacement, but failed to cover martial law effectively. I learned that the federal government alone has accumulated three hundred billion dollars through FEMA and other emergency management/relief organizations almost three hundred thousand dollars per individual, and probably close to a million dollars per capita, but the news failed to mention any more details on the specifics of how this one thousand dollars per US resident was being spent. I saw a lot of interviews, some with national guardsmen, some with residents, and even more with police and other military personell, but none of these were very informative as they all said roughly the same thing the military and national guard have instituted a form of martial law and are now evacuating the entire affected area, no questions asked. The citizens all said something along the lines of today came with shattered dreams, everythings not what it seems, and I seem to have missed all the details about relocation and what the government plans to do in regard to rebuilding the city. The answers I have leave me with nothing but more questions. JE #15 Today well talk about JC Dentons favorite food. I used to work with a guy named JC, but he got fired last week so in honor of him, well go with JC Denton, star of the Deus Ex series of computer games. Being almost completely mechanized (a generation II mech, though, so he looks human), JC and his older brother paul most likely dont require much to eat besides chips. he seems like the type of person that would be into the barbecued variety, but it is also possible that he is a salt and vinegar fan. Throughout the game, however, the only food we see him consume is candy bars, which are a nice snack but hardly enough to live on, so our chips decision remains accurate. Good night. JE #16 Back in the day it was somewhat of a chore to print pictures as anything more than ascii art. The six-column layout provided a uniform look while still maintaining an element of readability. The pseudo-graphical heading adds a nice artistic touch as well. JE #17 This looks like a math teacher love poem. Let x be me, let y be you. Until that point, there is no indication of the real theme of the poem, but all lines (once the real meaning is discovered) add to the mathematical sweetness. My writing today is horrible because Im tired, and rather random as well. The last line of this poem is a switch of sorts where the theme surfaces and the meaning of the poem becomes obvious. The McMansion Is the Big Mac of Suburbia
The McMansion Is the Big Mac of Suburbia McMansion is a derogatory term for a large, showy neo-eclectic architectural style home, usually built by a developer without the guidance of an architects custom design. The word McMansion was coined in the 1980s by architects and architecture critics in response to the many over-sized, poorly designed, expensive homes being built in American suburbs. The word McMansion is cleverly derived from the name McDonalds, the fast food chain restaurant. Think about what is offered under the golden arches of McDonaldsà - big, fast, tasteless food. McDonalds is known for mass producing super-sized everything in huge quantities.à So, a McMansion is the Big Mac hamburger of architecture - mass produced, quickly built, generic, bland, and unnecessarily large. The McMansion is part of the McDonaldization of Society. Features of a McMansion A McMansion has many of these characteristics: (1) over-sized in proportion to the building lot, which is usually a defined space in a suburban neighborhood; (2) poorly proportioned placement of windows, doors, and porches; (3) excessive use of gabled roofs or a bizarre mixture of roof styles; (4) poorly planned mixture of architectural details and ornamentation borrowed from a variety of historical periods; (5) abundant use of vinyl (e.g., siding, windows) and artificial stone; (6) unpleasing combinations of many different siding materials; (7) atria, great rooms, and other grand open spaces that are rarely used; and (8) quickly constructed using mix-and-match details from a builders catalog. McMansion is a snarky word used to describe a certain type of house, for which there is no absolute definition. Some people use the word to describe an entire neighborhood of overly large houses. Other people use the word to describe an individual house of new construction, more than 3,000 square feet, that has replaced a more modest house on the same lot. A very large house in a neighborhood of mid-century modest homes would look disproportional. A Symbol of Economic Status Is the McMansion anything new? Well, yes, sort of. McMansions are unlike the mansions of yesteryear. In the Gilded Age of America, many people became very wealthy and built opulent homes - usually a city dwelling and a country house, or cottage as the Newport, Rhode Island mansions are called. In the early 20th century, large, rambling homes were built in Southern California for people in the movie industry. No doubt, these homes are objects of excess. Generally, however, they are not considered McMansions because they were individually built by people who really could afford them. For example, Biltmore Estate, often called the largest private home in the United States, was never a McMansion because it was designed by a well-known architect and built by moneyed people on many, many acres of land. Hearst Castle,à William Randolph Hearsts estate inà San Simeon, California, and Bill and Melinda Gates 66,000 square foot house, Xanadu 2.0, are not McMansions for similar reasons. These are mansions, plain and simple. McMansions are a type of wannabe mansion, built by upper-middle class people with enough down payment money to show off their economic status. These homes are usually highly mortgaged to people who can afford the monthly interest payment, but who have obvious disregard for architectural aesthetics. They are trophy homes. The leveraged McMansion becomes a status symbol, then - a business tool that depends on property appreciation (i.e., natural price increase) to make money. McMansions are real estate investments instead of architecture. Reaction to McMansions Many people love McMansions. Likewise, many people love McDonalds Big Macs. That doesnt mean theyre good for you, your neighborhood, or society. Historically, Americans have rebuilt their communities every 50 to 60 years. In the book Suburban Nation, Andres Duany, Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk and Jeff Speck tell us that its not too late to untangle the mess.à The authors are pioneers in the rapidly growing movement known as New Urbanism. Duany and Plater-Zyberk launched the groundbreaking Congress for the New Urbanism which strives to promote the creation of pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods. Jeff Speck is the director of town planning at Duany Plater-Zyberk Co. The firm is noted for designing pristine communities such as Seaside, Florida, and Kentlands, Maryland. McMansions are not in their visions for America. Old-fashioned neighborhoods with walkable roads and corner shops may seem idyllic, but New Urbanist philosophies are not universally embraced. Critics say that pretty communities like Kentlands, Maryland, and Seaside, Florida, are as isolated as the suburbs they try to replace. Moreover, many New Urbanist communities are considered pricey and exclusive, even when they arent filled with McMansions. Architect Sarah Susanka, FAIA, became famous by rejecting McMansions and the notion of what she calls starter castles. She has created a cottage industry by preaching that space should be designed to nurture the body and soul and not to impress the neighbors. Her book, The Not So Big House, has become a textbook for 21st-century living. More rooms, bigger spaces, and vaulted ceilings do not necessarily give us what we need in a home, writes Susanka. And when the impulse for big spaces is combined with outdated patterns of home design and building, the result is more often than not a house that doesnt work. Kate Wagner has become the go-to critic of the McMansion form. Her commentary website called McMansion Hell is a clever, snarky personal assessment of the house style. In a local TED talk, Wagner rationalizes her animosity by suggesting that in order to avoid bad design, one must recognize bad design - and McMansions have a plethora of opportunities to hone ones critical thinking skills. Before the economic downturn of 2007, McMansions proliferated like mushrooms in a field. In 2017 Kate Wagner was writing about The Rise of the McModern -à McMansions persist.à Perhaps its a byproduct of a capitalistic society. Perhaps its the notion that you get what you pay for - small houses can cost as much to build as larger houses, so how do we rationalize living in tiny homes?à I believe, concludes Sarah Susanka, that the more people put their money where their hearts are, the more others will realize the validity of building for comfort, and not prestige. Project costing (Project Management) Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Project costing (Project Management) - Essay Example This gives the essence of a project which should be a temporary thing outlaid within the limits of time. In respect of this case study, itââ¬â¢s imperative that the project appraisal is facilitated so that the resources can be put into proper use. In a project like a construction of say a health facility, there tends to be three major players for the success of such endeavors. These factors are mainly; time, quality and budget. In project management circle, a lot of regard is given to the attainment of the specified quality and this need to be within the stipulated project life so that there is no much deviation of the cost. It is therefore important that before a project like the one in the case study take off, appraisal and evaluation is effectively carried out. It is common that time and cost tend to show an inverse relation and therefore it is always advisable that to cut time, there must be a compromise in the overall project cost (Smith, 1995). Any project management team mu st therefore be very considerate and extra careful when designing and implementing so that resources which tend to be costly are economized. In regard to the construction project referred to in this case study, cost stands out o be one of the thorny issues since it forms the better part of the implementation process. This is in the form of building materials, manpower and other costs like sunk and legal costs. It a bit easier to manage cost issues ones the network analysis has been drawn and simple breakdown of the work is put down. Project cost management will tend to be challenging since there is always the issue of uncertainties caused by natural disasters like floods, fire, earthquake and others which can alter the plan significantly. For this project proposal to succeed, cost control is paramount. Beginning with the building materials, the client may decide to give tender wholesome to a given contractor so that even the cost

Lord Of The Flies Chapter 5 Essay Example for Free
Lord Of The Flies Chapter 5 Essay The boys life has deteriorated a lot since they first arrived on the island and from the look of the situation things can only get worse unless they change their behaviour and attitude . There is a lot of conflict between Ralph and Jack, the fear of the unknown is growing, the boys are turning into savages and becoming more uncivilised by the day, rules and taboos are being disobeyed and ignored, and bullying and rivalry is becoming more of a problem. The conflict between Ralph and Jack is causing a lot of tension in the group and is therefore affecting the boys lives. It has already divided them into separate groups with different priorities as some have followed Jack and some have followed Ralph. Jack and Ralphs different priorities is the main reason for the conflict between them as they are completely opposite. Jack wants control and started of wanting to be leader but was out done by Ralph who was voted the leader. Jack is short tempered and very big headed where as Ralph is realistic, kind hearted and organised. Ralphs main priority is to be rescued and have fun have fun on the island. Their relationship is described in the book as two continents of experience and baffled in love and hate. Their personality also clash as they are completely different. Ralph is optimistic, respectful, fair, practical and naà ¯Ã ¿Ã ½ve, where as Jack is arrogant, boastful, power hungry, self centred, easily angered and brutal. The boys fear of the unknown is represented in different ways but is rapidly growing and could get out of hand. It started of as being a beastie, then a snake like creature, and now a beast from water or even a ghost. At first it was only the litluns that were scared of the beastie and believed it existed but now the older boys are starting to get worried and have their doubts so none of the quite knows what to believe. Even Ralph has his doubts about what the thing is and he is supposed to be leader, I dont believe in ghosts at least I dont think so. This comment from Ralph shows that he is now considering there being some type of creature on the island even though he just dismissed the idea at the beginning. Deterioration has also been caused by the boys becoming totally uncivilised and turning into savages. Although they are now looking like savages as their hair has grown, Jack is mainly responsible for them turning into savages. He was so obsessed with hunting to kill that he influenced the other boys that became his hunters. At the beginning they hunted but did not manage to kill for a ling time. Then when Jack finally did he became even more obsessed and made masks that he could hide behind while hunting, the mask was a thing on its own, behind which Jack lived. This made Jack a different person when he put on the mask, he was a killer with no taboos or responsibilities. Jacks passion for hunting also caused a major disagreement between him and Ralph because on the day a ship went by the fire was let out by boys that Jack made go hunting with him that day. Ralph said to Jack when he got back There was as ship, you let the fire out. There was a strong chance that they may have been rescued then but down to Jack they ended up eating their first pig. From successfully killing his first pig Jack felt very strong and had fulfilled his ambition so did not really care about the fire or Ralph. Rules have been completely ignored lately and systems of organisation disrespected. This has led to the boys becoming lazy and uncivilised. At one point things were going well and most things were well organised. There was toilet system worked out so there was not mess all over the island and water was being stored in coconut shells in the shade so hat it would be cool and fresh. Though now these systems have been ignored and the boys are going to the toilet anywhere on the island and no water is being stored. Ralph also tried to built shelters for them to sleep in which would have been practical but Simon was the only one that would help in the end so they could not be completed. This shows how disorganised the boys have become and disrespectful. They have no taboos and without adults they have forgotten the way they had to behave. Bullying has also become a problem that has led to a deterioration in the boys life. Jack consistently picks on Piggy and uses him as scapegoat for his own mistakes. He makes little of Piggy and by doing this he is trying to show that he has power over the boys as well as Ralph. The litluns are also being ignored and sometimes bullied by the elder boys. Although this might have happened a bit before they arrived on the island but there were still taboos that the older boys had. All these reasons have led to deterioration in the boys life. Their behaviour on the island has had consequences and meant that their lives have become less structured and disciplined and more savage like. Ralph described the situation by saying, we are all drifting and things are turning rotten. This shows us that the boys are drifting apart and could possibly separate into different groups completely which would also make their life deteriorate more.

Why President Truman Decided to Drop Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Naga
Why President Truman Decided to Drop Atomic Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki At 02:45 August 6th 1945, the B-29 Superfortress the Enola Gay took off from the specially lengthened North Field on the Island of Tinian in the Marianas. The plane piloted by Colonel Paul Tibbets was 7 tons. At 0815 hours the bomb doors of the B-29 opened and flying at approximately 32,000 ft the uranium based atom bomb code-named ââ¬Å"Little Boyâ⬠was unleashed upon the city of Hiroshima. Over 70,000 men women and children were killed by blast alone. And over the next half century approximately another 40,000 would die from related illnesses. With this 70,000 were wounded at Hiroshima. The co-pilot of the Enola Gay could see, ââ¬Å"smoke and fires creeping up the side of the mountainâ⬠. Then again on August 9th a second holocaust was unleashed on Nagasaki. ââ¬Å"â⬠¦a giant ball of fire rose as though from the bowels and a giant pillar of purple fireâ⬠¦shooting skyward and with enormous speedâ⬠The effects of the bomb here were much less spectacular than at Hiroshima. There were only 80,000 initial casualties of which 40,000 were dead. Japan surrendered to the allied forces on August 14th, 1945. Emperor Hirohito made the announcement to a stunned nation, ââ¬Å"I can not endure the thought of letting my people suffer any longer. A continuation of the war would bring death to tens, perhaps hundreds, of thousands of persons, the whole nation would be reduced to ashesâ⬠. Who had ordered this barbaric act, and for what purpose? To find the answer we examine the military situation surrounding the final stages of the war on Japan, Americas diplomatic rivalry with Russia, the need to app... ...ium bomb was dropped on Nagasaki. The USSR still held onto large areas of Eastern Europe and forced communism onto the held territories. The bombing showed the Russians what incredible power the new weapon had. If the USSR were to keep up the balance with America then they too must have one. This set the scene for the nuclear arms race between the US and the USSR, it was democracy against communism, an ââ¬Å"iron curtainâ⬠descended across Europe and already the Cold War had begun. If the Cold War prevented a more conventional war between the two superpowers then the fact that they both had weapons of mass destruction acted as each others deterrent. And so if this is the case then the use of the bomb although unknown at the time has been justified, as it is the only time that a weapon of its kind has ever been used in anger.

Online enhance corrective feedback for ESL learners
The purpose of the research is to look into the value of online enhanced disciplinary feedback for non-native talkers of English. It is analyzing in three countries which are the quality of their interaction online, their perceptual experiences and the rivals encountered. The research is done as when the research worker found that many foreign pupils in many western universities holding hapless linguistic communication accomplishments and experient civilization daze. Due to this job, they do non cognize what is appropriate and what is non. Hence, this probe on the value of online enhanced disciplinary feedback ( OECF ) is to develop their linguistic communication accomplishments and acquire them to socialise positively with the hosting pupils while prosecuting their academic classs. The research worker used qualitative and quantitative tools to garner informations in his survey. The Conversation Analysis and end-project study as the two chief instruments used both for NNSs and NSs. Conversation Analysis takes into history of the three facets of interaction in order to keep the quality discourse. There are ( 1 ) inductions of subjects, ( 2 ) petitions for elucidation and ( 3 ) elaborated replies to inquiries. To prolong the linguistic communication consciousness, the analysis included self-correction, blessings as preferable responses and incorporations of the corrected signifier or significance. The information collected was from hebdomad one to hebdomad eight. As for the end-project study, the research worker wants to cognize the penetrations on the value of OECF from both NNSs and NSs positions. By acquiring the topics to interact, the research worker was selected MSN courier for on-line synergistic tools as it is practical to the users. However, participants were reminded non to utilize their private electronic mails for this undertaking. Due to this, participants were given an option to open new histories on hotmail and trip new MSN courier. The participants were the international pupils from the Language Centre of the University of Dundee. They were 10 pupils from diverse background ; seven Chinese, one Italian, and two Indians. They were in-between stripling with small contact with NSs of English and had no friends as NSs to socialise with. Whereas, for the tutoring group or NS comprised of six pupils from the pupil community of the University of Dundee and four were from the university staff members. Most of the coachs were from Scotland and merely two came from the non English speech production backgrounds, nevertheless harmonizing to their bio-data that they possessed a good bid of English and understanding good of the British civilization. The processs are used by the research worker is the equal tutoring technique in which coachs are matched with NNSs. Both are interacting utilizing the online MSN courier in turn-taking. They are showing their thoughts and positions like inquiring inquiry, supply information and so on as though they are prosecuting in speaking but in other manner they are pass oning by typing the message online. In a conversation analysis, participants are identified for their linguistic communication consciousness such as middlemans are acquiring feedback for their grammatical and semantic inaccuracies. Furthermore, in this article, OECF is adopted few schemes from negotiated significance when a societal interaction emphasized negotiated significance in a cognitive procedure ( Long, 1996 ) . NNSs have the attempt to self-correct if they are acknowledging any mistakes during the communicating. These feedbacks could help them in their academic accomplishments. NNSs would be able to pattern their Englis h of no fright to be embarrassed when there are errors because they are non talking to the NS straight but by typing the messages. For the end-project study, the research worker developed study in a signifier of questionnaire with a five point Likert graduated table runing from Strongly Disagree to Strongly Agree to mensurate NNSs & A ; acirc ; Ãâ â⠢ and NSs positions and attitudes. In the inquiry, they will bespeak their degree of satisfaction by ranking it from 1 to 5 in which 5 is the highest mark. The analysis is considered in the eight-week intercession. In the survey of quality engagement, it showed that conversation was non being monopolized by the NS when NNSs were lending every bit much as their coach equals ; whereby they were given clip to believe, explicate and type their messages. NNSs were able to alter the flow of their on-line conversation by originating subjects and asked for elucidation if there was any misinterpretation occurred. However, it besides indicated that NNSs were effortless to take enterprises in altering subjects and inquiring inquiries due to their deficiency of assurance in pass oning in English, hence they anticipated the coachs to make most of altering subjects. Following, in linguistic communication consciousness survey, consequences indicated that NNSs had clip to read, reflect, memorise and spread out their English linguistic communication cognition repertory. NNSs were able to read their NS coachs & A ; acirc ; Ãâ â⠢ posters, infusion, generate, exchange and construct significance from the reliable environment. Finally, the consequences from the end-of-semester studies showed that both NSs and NNSs had a positive experience while engaged in this undertaking. NNSs feedback on this undertaking had offered them a socially and linguistically rich environment to pattern the mark linguistic communication. Harmonizing to NNSs, the text-based communicating provided a positive impact in bettering both their authorship and reading accomplishments and besides on their speech production accomplishments. They perceived those as an effectual manner non merely to interchange thoughts and to inquire for and clear up information but besides to show and back up their points of position. Indeed, their errors were noticed and they were able to be self-corrected. Part C With respects to the IT demands in this century, the research does involvement me. However, there are pros and cons to be considered to transport out this survey. Talking about the benefits from this survey, it is appropriate method for cut downing anxiousness in pupils larning English. NNSs particularly will non experience shy or embarrass if they make errors in organizing the syntactical sentences when they are non interact face to face with the NSs. Harmonizing to the findings, it was a positive feedback from NNSs on this research undertaking. They said that it gave a good deduction in their English acquisition and bettering both their authorship and reading accomplishments so as their speech production accomplishments. However, based from my sentiment the research did non good conducted. The first ground is, by looking from the facets of experimental cogency, the findings were non valid. This is reported in this article that during the undertaking has started, there were participants drop out from the undertaking and go forthing merely five braces to go on. The consequences from the findings were merely based from the five braces alternatively of 10 braces. The trying drawing was uneffective to obtain the satisfaction analysis on this survey. Second, the research worker indicated that he is utilizing both qualitative and quantitative methods in his research survey. Hence, the survey should follow with two groups.1 group which i s called the experimental group is given a intervention and 1 group which is called the control group does non have any intervention. Then, the consequences of the findings can be acceptable of whether the OECF truly run into it objectives. Third, the research worker should briefs the purposed lineation of the survey in order to acquire the good engagement from the participants. The research worker should aware of the different backgrounds of the NNSs participants to be matched with NSs coachs. I suggested that age is to see for choosing the NSs because harmonizing to the articles, there were four NS in their mid-twentiess and one in his late teens. Possibly, the research worker should see on the adulthood because I believe when younger NSs involves with the NNSs troubles in novice a conversation, therefore NSs will be easy acquire bored and they have the inclination of originating subjects that are more relevant to their age. Hence, the conversation failed to discourse efficaciousl y when NNSs will take a long clip to believe about the thoughts that they need to convey out. Harmonizing to the activities presented in the research article, I think the activities should be enriched with more reliable subjects, produce more light readings to the NNSs which related to the current issues and reading transitions that could arouse NNSs feedback immediately without hold. In add-on, to obtain more concise consequences, the period of survey analysis shall be extended to hebdomad 12 alternatively of hebdomad 8 hence legion activities could be planned. In general this research provides an chance for the higher instruction pupils to heighten their communicating accomplishments particularly in composing and talking. Beforehand, the research worker should clearly find his/her aims and what kind of research method that is applicable and appropriate for the survey. Often, we found that even though pupils had learnt English during a school clip but they were still confronting jobs to get the linguistic communication eloquence and truth. Therefore, this research undertaking is seen as the appropriate exercisings for pupils to modify their defects in English linguistic communication when they are able to show their thoughts and giving their ideas from the activities designed. They are affecting in two ways communicating in which their errors are being corrected by the experts or so called the coachs. On the manus of Malayan contexts, in order to implement this activities, the instructor shall look closely on the scholar involvements whereby the subjects to be discussed must be reliable, short and simple but is able to dispute their positions and able to promote them to do remarks. As a consequence, they learn more, understand the grammatical class in the sentences and larn new vocabulary each clip. Learning English should be merriment.

Jacksons Building Centres Essay
Introduction: A large to medium sized business such as Jacksons need quite a big Human Resources department. They perform a key role in the companyââ¬â¢s day to day operations. This department cover many areas such as, recruitment and training, organisation at department levels and looking at competition, these are just a few aspects of the department but are all needed so make the business run efficiently. This Human Resource based project I am going to base on Jacksons Building Centres. The main aim of this study is to investigate the five main areas of Human Resources which are: * Human resource planning * Recruitment and selection * Training and development * Performance management * Motivational theory Human resource planning: In an ideal world businesses should plan ahead when it comes to human resources. A well-organized business will have forecasts and projections of its future staffing needs. These will then be matched to forecasts and projections about the local labour market, which means that the business can develop appropriate strategies for the recruitment, training and development of its staff. Projected Levels of Employment in Lincolnshire: Work Force Lincolnshire Total Number in Employment 219,085 % of all working age in employment 75.2 % of Male Full-Time 42.7 % of Female Full-Time 6.6 % of Male Part-Time 23.4 % of Female Part-Time 27.2 The types of jobs that are in decline in Lincolnshire: The two main types of jobs that are in decline in Lincolnshire are: * Farming ââ¬â this is due to more to increased mechanisation so the ratio of work complete by machines to human is decreasing, thus less man power is needed. * Heavy Engineering ââ¬â the majority of heavy engineering companies have left the area only leaving the largest which is Alstom. Due to Jacksons not being involved in these sectors the decline in certain areas of employment does not have an effect on the business. Technological advances, changes in social behavior, demographic shifts and economic conditions are driving fundamental changes in the structure of the labour market and the playing field on which competition is laid for labour. The competitiveness with other employers is affected by general labour market forces. Recruitment and Selection: Recruitment and Selection is a well-worn topic, whish is traded fully in all major texts. There is always a tension between getting the right person for a job and how much resource in terms of time and money is devoted to recruitment. The main ways in which Jacksons recruit is via Job Centres and Local News papers. This encourages people who live in the local area to apply for the job. The Selection Process for the management scheme: Requirements: ââ¬â Between the ages of 18 and 24. ââ¬â 4 GCSEs ââ¬â 2 A Levels Application: * Approximately one hundred people apply for four positional available, * They then look for suitability for the position in Jacksons case Energetic and hard working, * They then select the definite noââ¬â¢s: * not complete application forms, * poor handwriting * poor literacy * They then look for the applicants that they like: * Sociability quality * Good Motivational qualities * A Spark! They then invite the selected applicants to an assessment centre where they undergo a series of tasks. They are first split up into groups of around twelve for around half a day where the do exercises based on: ââ¬â Motivation ââ¬â Sociability ââ¬â Team Work During this time they look for the Contribution of the applicant or domineering and no contribution, within this they look for a balance between them. They then have a half an hour paper base study where they have to figure an appropriate solution to a given problem. From the assessment centre they narrow the candidates down to 2 or 3 which will be interviewed. The interview will be based and assessed on: ââ¬â A Balanced approach ââ¬â Halo Effect ââ¬â Avoiding bias ââ¬â Describe personalities ââ¬â Numeracy Questions ââ¬â Case study during interview (customer service problem) ââ¬â Move away from Psychometric tests ââ¬â Looking at objectives An interview report is then compiled. If the applicant is successful then they will be asked back to another interview with Branch managers and other high status employees. They will then offer 4 to 6 placements within a month to 6 weeks. Included in the next few pages are examples of the Application Form and the Employment Interview Report. Training and Development: Jacksons run a management trainee program which has been running for around twenty years. Jacksons say it has been a strong contributory factor in their continued success, providing their branches with a steady stream of capable Merchant Managers. The programme consists of two stages. The first lasts for two years, in which time trainees will gain a valuable insight into the running of a busy Builders Merchant. The programme will be agreed at the beginning of the course and is designed to acquaint the trainee with a merchantââ¬â¢s environment, as well as learning and developing valuable personal competencies, such as time-management, assertiveness and communication skills. Knowledge will be developed from grass roots level where the trainee will work in a number of departments, building up an understanding of both the products we sell and customers we deal with. Progress is assessed regularly, both verbally and by written appraisal. Upon successful completion of the first phase the trainee will move onto the second stage of the programme, where there will be more specific management development lasting up to one year. Transport/Warehouse Building Materials Plumbing and Heating Sales Plumbing Office Heating Office Ironmongery Bathroom Showroom Kitchen Showroom Jackson Hire Timber one month three months three months two months two months three months three months one month three months three months In addition to the above, you will also spend time in the following areas: a. Accompanying a Company Representative b. Accompanying a Lorry Driver c. A period in the Accounts Office As a trainee manager you will also take part in special projects such as trade shows, corporate promotions and careers conventions. You will also spend time working at one other branch. This gives you the opportunity to work with people from around the group. Motivational Theory: Training in motivation is important in helping learners develop self-regulatory skills to set their own goals and manage their own learning and performance. Evaluating motivational levels in a learning situation also allows the instructor to determine the clarity of their unitsââ¬â¢ directions, and measure the effectiveness of varying consequences to either success or failure of individual students (Driscoll, 2000). Keller adds curiosity and its measure and promotion are a key to promoting knowledge seeking behaviour (Keller, 1987). A prevalent model in motivational theory is credited to John M. Keller. The ARCS theory of motivation corresponds to each of the four letters of the acronym (Keller, 1984): A- Attention R- Relevance C- Confidence S- Satisfaction Attention Kellerââ¬â¢s Attitude of Inquiry (1987) is a phrase used to describe the attention level desired to promote learning. He recommends varying presentation styles in order to maintain student attention (Keller,1983). Driscoll suggests presenting some materials through varying media, alternating lecture with demonstration, small group discussions, or class debates (2000). Relevance Instructors should relate lessons to their learnersââ¬â¢ experiences by providing concrete examples and analogies. The more familiar something is, the more likely a student is to see it as relevant to their learning and use (Driscoll, 2000). Keller states that people enjoy learning more about things they already believe in or are more interested in (1987). Elementary teachers who used all four categories of ARCS found that relevance bore the strongest positive relationship to on-task behavior (Newby, 1991). Confidence Students gain confidence in their own abilities when experiencing success at challenging tasks (Driscoll, 2000). Students can be shown that seemingly unreachable goals can be attained through a series of organized, manageable sub goals and attainable small steps. Even failure can build confidence if the learner attributes failure to the poor use of strategies inherent to learning (Clifford, 1984). Satisfaction Students base satisfaction on the comparison of their achievements on balance with the achievements of those involved with them in the same learning environment (Keller, 1987). Elements increasing satisfaction can be verbal praise, incentives, and awards (Driscoll, 2000). The above four are the main sections that are obtained under the title ââ¬ËMotivational Theoryââ¬â¢. Different Theories: Many theories have been established within the last one hundred years and it is not possible to consider each one of these. What is important in the study of motivation are the key names that have influenced todayââ¬â¢s approach. Four major theories have remained at the forefront of motivational techniques and each one is linked to a different style of management they are: * Frederick Winslow Taylor * Douglas McGregor * Abraham Maslow * Frederick Herzberg. Performance management Performance Management refers to different strategies designed to get the best of a businesses work force. Different techniques are employed which attempt to relate performance with pay, or promotion or training. Such schemes are not always popular with workers. A method of creating fair individual and team will be used by the Human Resources department and this could be done by the SMART model: Specific use a clear language to describe exactly what is required Measurable identify numerical targets and outputs which can be counted and assessed Agreed agree these with the employee so that they take responsibility for their own output Realistic set targets that are attainable for each individual, according to their skills and competencies Time-related state specific dates when targets must be achieved and will be measured External Labour Market The external Labour market is important to the running of the Human Resources department of Jacksons. To attract people to the company they need to compete with other companies. This means that Jacksons have to be able to offer the best package for them to attract new workforces. One of the main things that Jacksons offer is the Management training course. This is a very sort after employment opportunity due to incorporating management and other valuable skills fitting for later employment opportunities. Another aspect of importance to the external labour market to the Human Resources department is the way jobs and such are advertised. This in many cases is what a potential employee is looking at. So the Human Resources department look at other companies methods and take the good points from them to increase efficiency of attracting potential employees.

contrast On The Black Hill with Long Distance essays
Compare/contrast On The Black Hill with Long Distance essays On The Black Hill Novel Long Distance Poem Possibly the poem is a lot more concentrated, as poems are never as long as novels. On The Black Hill, is a lot less concentrated than Long Distance. A poem has to distil that essence of everything, in less space than a novel. A prose is a concentrated version of the above. In each extract there is a son, and in each extract, the sons try to come to terms with their parent(s) grief. In Long Distance I think that Tony Harrison, at least, begins to come to terms with the death of his parents, where as, in On The Black Hill there is no acceptance. Long Distance and angry, but there is a need/wanting of sympathy. On The Black Hill is full of guilt, though there is a sense of lover there. In Long Distance and On The Black Hill they are ashamed of showing how they are dealing with the deaths. Tone (On The Black Hill) Sombre, in the first part, though seemed to get more so as the text goes on. (Sombre Depressing) In On The Black Hill the story ends with the image of a museum. Generally, museums are solely focused on the past, which is where the sons are still living no progress. In Long Distance the poem ends with death. Both extracts lack life, though both give a feeling of finality, sad, though an ending is given. On The Black Hill is fairly lyrical, more so in the central part of the extract. It could be rearranged into poetry. Although it is lyrical, it is quite sombre underneath. I find On The Black Hill to be more mocking. It uses quotations in full conversations, e.g. Yes, No etc conversational, though when read, it can sound quite comical and light hearted, although there is a feeling that underneath we see how the mother must have been feeling and h...

Fast Online Degrees How to Find the Perfect Program
Fast Online Degrees How to Find the Perfect Program SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips The traditional four-year bachelorââ¬â¢s degree program isnââ¬â¢t for everyone. People from all walks of life have benefitted from earning an accelerated bachelorââ¬â¢s degree, online and in person, for years. But, like with most things, you need to know a few things before you enroll in one of these programs. Not only do you need to understand what fast online degrees require, you need to know how they look on a resume and how to find the accelerated degree program thatââ¬â¢s right for you. Donââ¬â¢t worry: weââ¬â¢ve got you covered. Weââ¬â¢re going to give you the info you need to choose programs that enable you to get quick and easy online or in-person degrees by covering the following: What an accelerated degree program is The different types of accelerated degree programs, including fast online degrees, accelerated in-person degrees, and combined bachelorââ¬â¢s and masterââ¬â¢s degree programs How accelerated bachelorââ¬â¢s degree programs are different from traditional four-year bachelorââ¬â¢s degrees (and why knowing the difference matters) Examples of quick and easy online degrees and accelerated in person degrees through six different programs Things to watch out for as you choose an accelerated degree program Once youââ¬â¢ve read our guide to quick degree programs, you should feel confident in your ability to vet the many options out there and take control of your journey to a college degree. Now, letââ¬â¢s get to work! What Is an Accelerated Bachelorââ¬â¢s Degree? Online, In-Person, and Everything In Between Maybe you need to get a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online- fast. Maybe youââ¬â¢re looking for a way to get a bachelor degree in 12 months or less, or youââ¬â¢re looking for a more time efficient way to get your bachelorââ¬â¢s and masterââ¬â¢s degrees. Whatever your goals, navigating the language out there about fast or accelerated degree programs can be pretty confusing! Thatââ¬â¢s because there are many different types of accelerated degree programs, and not all are created equal. And, of course, they can differ drastically in cost, time commitment, and the end result that you- the student- will get. In fact, choosing an accelerated degree program takes as much research and planning as committing to a traditional, four-year degree. Itââ¬â¢s important for you to be able to navigate the different terminology out there surrounding fast and accelerated degree programs so you donââ¬â¢t get yourself into a financial commitment that you didnââ¬â¢t want to make in the first place. Unfortunately, there isnââ¬â¢t one accepted definition of an accelerated or fast degree program out there- those terms can mean many different things. In general, though, you can think of an accelerated degree program as a program that enables students to earn a college degree faster than the normal four years by offering options like more flexible schedules, online enrollment, and shorter courses. Next, weââ¬â¢ll talk a little bit about the main differences between accelerated degree programs and traditional, four-year bachelorââ¬â¢s degree programs. This will help you get an idea for what your experience might be like in the fast lane! 5 Key Differences Between Accelerated Degree Programs and Traditional Bachelorââ¬â¢s Degree Programs There are actually a lot of differences between accelerated degree programs and traditional degree programs, but weââ¬â¢re going to highlight the five differences that we think might play the biggest role in your decision about what type of degree program is right for you. You can think of these five differences as falling into three categories: time and the nature of course completion, admissions requirements and cost, and campus and classroom culture. Though going through a fast degree program will be different from the traditional four-year experience, there can be some advantages to it, and weââ¬â¢ll be sure to mention those below too! #1: Time to Degree Completion Now you know that in a ââ¬Å"fastâ⬠or ââ¬Å"acceleratedâ⬠degree program, youââ¬â¢ll likely earn your bachelorââ¬â¢s degree in less than four years. But how long does it take to complete accelerated bachelor degree programs? For online programs, the time to completion is generally 12 to 18 months. There are exceptions to this- the time to completion varies significantly between schools and programs- but the year to year-and-a-half range is pretty standard for fast online degrees in the United States. If youââ¬â¢re entering an in-person accelerated program, the time to degree is #2: Course Structure At first glance, entering an accelerated degree program seems like a slam-dunk decision. After all, youââ¬â¢re getting the same degree- a bachelorââ¬â¢s- that people who go to college for four years (or five, or six...) get. So whatââ¬â¢s the catch? Colleges and universities donââ¬â¢t pass out easy degrees just because you want to get your bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online fast. Youââ¬â¢re going to have to do about the same amount of work as a student whoââ¬â¢s completing their degree in four years...but youââ¬â¢re going to have less time to do it. That means accelerated programs usually offer shorter terms for course completion, and they offer more terms in a calendar year. In traditional four-year degree programs at universities, the fall and spring semesters are each typically sixteen weeks long, which means that students enroll in a set number of courses that last for sixteen weeks. Students enrolled in four-year degree programs typically take anywhere from 12 to 18 credit hours per sixteen-week semester. Accelerated programs- and especially accelerated online bachelor degree programs- handle these time frames differently. First, they donââ¬â¢t usually parse out their course offerings into sixteen-week semesters. Instead, accelerated degree programs often offer terms that can range from four weeks to eight weeks, then they offer more of these shorter terms in a calendar year. That means that unlike a traditional degree program, which usually has two semesters in an academic year, accelerated degree programs usually offer more terms. This gives students the opportunity to take a lot more courses than they could in a traditional degree program. Hereââ¬â¢s an example of how that could work: say youââ¬â¢re getting your accelerated bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online and you enroll in 12 credit hours in a four-week term, then do that twice in a sixteen-week time frame. You could earn twice as many course credits as a student who enrolls in 12 hours for a sixteen-week semester in a traditional degree program. Having shorter terms more often is ideal for students who want or need to get quick and easy online degrees in a year or year and a half! #3: Admissions Requirement Youââ¬â¢re probably also wondering what it takes to get admitted into an accelerated degree program. Every program has admissions requirements of some kind, and accelerated programs are no different. Admissions requirements will differ depending on the degree and the type of accelerated program you want to complete, so letââ¬â¢s look at some of those differences. First, pretty much any accelerated bachelorââ¬â¢s degree program is going to require that you have a high school diploma, just like traditional degree programs. This requirement can be even different for degrees in professional fields. Letââ¬â¢s say you want to enter a program that lets you earn a bachelorââ¬â¢s in nursing in 12 months. A degree program like that is probably going to require either that youââ¬â¢ve completed a two-year associateââ¬â¢s degree or that you have some college credits under your belt already. These college credits might be considered ââ¬Å"prerequisite coursesâ⬠for a professional program like nursing. To determine what requirements you need to meet in order to be admitted to an accelerated program, youââ¬â¢ll definitely need to do some solid research on the program itself. We also recommend you speak with someone in the schoolââ¬â¢s admissions department to make sure you have all the information you need before you apply. #4: Program Costs Then thereââ¬â¢s also the difference in cost between a traditional four-year degree and an accelerated degree program. Students who enroll in traditional degree programs have to pay for a lot of additional things besides just their tuition. They have room and board, student activities fees, transportation fees, and much more. In an accelerated program, you might not have some of those additional costs. For instance, with an online degree program, you probably wonââ¬â¢t have to pay for room and board. (Well, not to the college, anyway!) But youââ¬â¢ll still have fees and textbook costs, which can vary widely. Regardless, youââ¬â¢ll want to talk to someone in admissions or student financial services to find out what the total cost of attendance looks like for students in accelerated degree programs, and what you have to pay for besides just tuition. #5: Campus and Classroom Culture College is all about getting an education, right? But for many students- especially those heading to college straight from high school- college is also about a lot of other things: making new friends, having an exciting social life, living in the dorms on campus and eating in the dining hall, going to sporting events or joining Greek life, or participating in different clubs and organizations. If you decide to complete an accelerated program, you probably arenââ¬â¢t going to get to experience all of those aspects of college life. And for many students, thatââ¬â¢s okay! Some people just need to get the degree, and they need to be able to do it while juggling a full time job, family and kids, or other responsibilities that need to take precedence over some of the social aspects of college life. The culture of the classroom can definitely be a bit different in an accelerated degree program as well. Students getting four-year degrees and taking mostly in-person courses are going to have the opportunity for face-to-face interaction with their professors and classmates. That can come with some perks: students can ask questions as material is being presented in class, engage in discussion of the course material in real-time, and benefit from the camaraderie that students can feel when they share a common- sometimes challenging!- experience with peers. Since many accelerated degree programs only offer online courses, the classroom dynamics are a bit different. The obvious change is that you wonââ¬â¢t be in a classroom full of people when you learn the material. That doesnââ¬â¢t mean that your professor and peers wonââ¬â¢t be accessible for asking questions and for discussion. It just means theyââ¬â¢ll be accessible in different ways, like through online chats, discussion boards, and email. Online courses also mean your knowledge might be assessed in different ways, too. You might be completing a lot more quizzes and tests than, say, group projects or presentations. But many professors who teach online incorporate a variety of assessment styles into their courses, too. You might find yourself creating a video presentation, writing an essay collaboratively in Google Docs, or sharing blog posts for your classmates to read! How To Decide If an Accelerated Degree Program Is Right for You To choose an accelerated degree program, you need to make your choices based on a bit more info than simply whether an option is the fastest. (Even though we know thatââ¬â¢s pretty temptingâ⬠¦) Hereââ¬â¢s a list of questions you should consider as you pick an accelerated degree program: Whether you want to- or can- enroll as a part-time or full-time student Whether to choose an in-person or online degree program What kind of institution to choose (a four-year university, a community college, private vs. public university) Your financial situation and how you want to handle financing your degree What subject you choose to study or what field you want to get a degree in. Now, letââ¬â¢s talk about these ideas in a little more depth! Time Commitment First, youââ¬â¢ll want to evaluate your responsibilities and commitments in consideration of the compressed time frame of accelerated programs. In an accelerated degree program, youââ¬â¢re probably going to have to be able to complete a lot more school work and show results on quizzes and exams a lot more frequently in a shorter period of time. That means it might be harder to complete an accelerated program if youââ¬â¢ve already got a lot on your plate. Consider whether this time commitment is something that will work for you based on the other things you have going on in your life! Learning Style Do you learn best when youââ¬â¢re talking to other people, or does information stick better when you read it out of a book? These are just two examples of different learning styles! No one learning style is better than another, but accelerated degree programs- especially if theyââ¬â¢re online- cater to people who like fast-paced, independent learning environments. For example, some people prefer fully immersing themselves in a couple of subjects for a shorter time frame, which is the style of coursework in an accelerated program. But some people have a more difficult time processing material in such a fast-paced environment, especially if the material is complex or requires you to master a new skill. Classroom Environment and ââ¬Å"The College Experienceâ⬠Even if the compressed timeline works for your learning style, you still want to consider whether learning in an online environment or a face-to-face environment is better for you. Some students really need the face-to-face interaction with their professors and classmates for accountability and a morale boost. Others prefer a high degree of independence and the option to reach out to their professor and classmates as needed. Additionally, if you really value the other things that a four-year college offers (like networking, extracurriculars, and volunteer opportunities), then you might find that being in an accelerated program feels like youââ¬â¢re missing out. If thatââ¬â¢s the case, then you might want to do a little more research on scholarships that you qualify for and affordable four-year degree programs. Finances and Cost Itââ¬â¢s also important to think about how the compressed time frame of an accelerated degree program might affect you financially. A lot of accelerated degree programs have a ââ¬Å"pay-as-you-goâ⬠or ââ¬Å"pay by the courseâ⬠policy, which sounds great...until you consider the fact that you might be taking eight courses in a two month time frame. That can add up quickly, so you want to make sure how much of a financial burden you can accommodate before you dive into a one-year degree program. Finally, a lot of universities offer accelerated degree programs in many different fields of study! Sometimes, students who feel they need to complete their degree really fast will just pick a field of study or career path based on whatever they can complete the fastest. But there is probably an accelerated degree program out there in a field of study that you have experience in or that really interests you, so spend some quality time researching different possibilities- itââ¬â¢ll be worth it in the end. 6 Examples of Fast Degree Programs We want to give you some examples of accelerated degree programs at a variety of higher education institutions so you can learn a little bit about what the options are. Our list of six different examples of fast degree programs is selective- all of the colleges and universities listed are nonprofit, regionally and nationally accredited, and theyââ¬â¢re generally well-respected institutions that are known for providing a quality education to their students. Additionally, itââ¬â¢s important to recognize that every institution or program on this list puts its own spin on the accelerated degree, whether thatââ¬â¢s by offering quick online degrees, a bachelor degree in 12 months, or an accelerated combined bachelorââ¬â¢s and masterââ¬â¢s degree. (Remember how we said theyââ¬â¢re all different? We meant it!) So weââ¬â¢ll give you an overview of what the path to a specific degree looks like at each of these institutions, and weââ¬â¢ll also provide the details about what youââ¬â¢d be looking at in terms of admissions requirements and cost of attendance as well. #1: Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing, University of Washington-Seattle Campus The University of Washingtonââ¬â¢s ABSN- thatââ¬â¢s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing- is a full-time program thatââ¬â¢s split into four quarters that start in the fall and end in the spring. That means itââ¬â¢s a one year program, so you can finish this degree in 12 months. If youââ¬â¢re looking for an online fast-track nursing program, youââ¬â¢ll want to look elsewhere, though. UWââ¬â¢s ASBN does not offer any ââ¬Å"distance learningâ⬠- which is code for online courses. So who is a good fit for this program? The ASBN is for people who already have a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree and are looking into a second career in nursing. If you got a degree but want to pursue a new career, this fast-track program could be the one for you. Hereââ¬â¢s the glimpse at the admission requirements and prerequisites: you must have completed a baccalaureate degree in a non-nursing field prior to enrolling in the ASBN, have maintained a minimum college-level GPA of 2.8 and complete several science-related courses with a specific minimum GPA, and have accumulated a minimum of 100 hours of paid or volunteer healthcare experience in one setting in a three-month time frame in the year prior to enrolling in the ABSN. In terms of cost of attendance, UWââ¬â¢s ASBN program charges $10,171 in tuition per quarter. The program lists other required fees, additional costs to consider, and available financial support opportunities on their website. Youââ¬â¢re probably gathering that this is the kind of accelerated degree program that requires you to have an outstanding prior academic record and a willingness to work hard. If you have a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree and are searching for a way to make a career change quickly, UWââ¬â¢s ASBN is a good example of the type of program that might suit your needs. SNHUââ¬â¢s online accounting degree program isnââ¬â¢t as accelerated as the nursing program we talked about above, but it does offer some options that could enable you to tailor your completion of the degree to your timeline. First, SNHUââ¬â¢s online accounting program offers six 8-week terms per year, giving you the opportunity to complete more courses in a 12-month timeframe. If you buckle down and take several courses in each eight-week term, you could definitely complete your degree in less than four years. Second, SNHUââ¬â¢s online degree program accepts up to 90 undergraduate transfer credits. Thatââ¬â¢s a third of the credits you need to graduate! If you started a degree but didnââ¬â¢t end up finishing in the past, or you have a lot of AP course credits, SNHUââ¬â¢s online program in accounting will accept them. Bringing in transfer credits from another accredited institution on top of taking advantage of the six eight-week terms per year could help you finish your degree at SNHU even more quickly. Finally, SNHUââ¬â¢s online accounting program does offer a fast-track bachelorââ¬â¢s-to-masterââ¬â¢s degree. That means this fast-track program allows you to take masterââ¬â¢s-level courses at the undergraduate tuition rate during your bachelorââ¬â¢s program. In other words, the courses will cost you less, and youââ¬â¢ll be able to complete your masterââ¬â¢s degree more quickly. If you already know youââ¬â¢ll need to get a masterââ¬â¢s degree, SNHU offers an affordable way to get it done. SNHU is a private, nonprofit university. The online undergraduate accounting degree program costs $960 per course and $320 per credit hour. To learn more about the goals of their online accounting program, the requirements for admission into the bachelorââ¬â¢s-to-masterââ¬â¢s fast-track program, and cost of attendance, check out their website. #3: Information Science and Technology, University of Wisconsin-Madison If youââ¬â¢re looking to get a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online fast, UW Flexible Options provides a model that might be a good fit for you. The Information Science and Technology (IST) program through UW Flexible Options allows you to work at your own pace in an online format, and it provides a high degree of freedom and flexibility. UW Flexible Options degree programs are typically a good match for students who have other responsibilities to juggle, like family life and work commitments. The programââ¬â¢s website states that the UW Flexible Options program is best suited for people who have prior professional experience in IT, or who are currently working in the field and have completed some college, technical school, or certification program in the IT world. One cool thing about UWââ¬â¢s Flexible Option program is that it allows students to custom-design their degree plans based on the transfer credits theyââ¬â¢re bringing in and their career goals. Students are also encouraged to complete the program at their own pace. If youââ¬â¢re looking for a high degree of flexibility and you already know what your career goals are, the IST degree through UWââ¬â¢s Flexible Options program could be a good fit. And hereââ¬â¢s the coolest thing about UWââ¬â¢s Flexible Option program: instead of paying tuition by course or credit, you have the option to pay a flat rate for a three-month subscription and complete ââ¬Å"competency setsâ⬠at your own pace. For instance, the ââ¬Å"All-You-Can-Learnâ⬠subscription option is $2250. During that three month subscription period, you could complete multiple competency sets instead of just one. What this basically means is that you can work with all the learning materials provided in the subscription packet you paid for, and when youââ¬â¢re able to demonstrate mastery of a skill or competency, you receive your credit. It doesnââ¬â¢t matter if it takes you two weeks or two months to show mastery! If youââ¬â¢re able to work at a steady pace and show mastery of more skill sets in a single three-month subscription period, youââ¬â¢re basically getting more out of the tuition you paid and youââ¬â¢ll be getting your degree done more quickly. So if speed is your primary requirement for getting your bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online fast, UWââ¬â¢s Flexible Options program is probably the best one on our list for that. Since the format and requirements for the UW Flexible Options program is pretty nontraditional, it might seem pretty confusing at first read. To get all the details and a full explanation of the Flexible Options program, the subscription packets, and competency sets, take a look at the FAQs page on the UW Flexible Options website. #4: Online Bachelor of Science in Marketing, Louisiana State University The online bachelor of science in marketing at Louisiana State University (LSU) is an accelerated online degree program, so you can complete your bachelorââ¬â¢s degree faster. Like other programs on our list, LSUââ¬â¢s online Bachelorââ¬â¢s of Science in Marketing offers generous transfer credit acceptance. Unlike some of the other programs on our list, though, LSUââ¬â¢s program is a good fit for first-time college students too. The universityââ¬â¢s Career Services office and hands-on professors are willing to provide the guidance and support that new college students probably need. LSUââ¬â¢s website is extremely user-friendly: they provide a list of options that allows students to select their specific admission type and learn about the unique admission requirements for their situation. Their ââ¬Å"Calendarâ⬠section also lists the next application due date and class start date, so prospective students considering the program know how soon they can get started in the program. LSUââ¬â¢s online BS in Marketing offers pay-as-you-go-tuition, and the tuition is pretty reasonable compared to many programs: $284 per credit hour. Take a look at LSUââ¬â¢s website for a full breakdown of tuition for the B.S. in Marketing online program. The one drawback is that the degree requires quite a bit of coursework. You must complete 120 credit hours to earn the degree, but the program offers multiple start dates per year so you can fit more coursework into a 12-month period. #5: Online Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design, Bellevue University There are some advantages to Bellevue Universityââ¬â¢s online Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Design degree program that the other programs on our list donââ¬â¢t have. Unlike some of the other programs on our list, you donââ¬â¢t have to have any prior college course credit or professional experience to be admitted into this program. So if youââ¬â¢re coming straight from high school or getting your GED, this online program might work out for you. If you decide to complete the BA in Graphic Design program online, unfortunately, youââ¬â¢re going to be paying more per credit hour at Bellevue. Per credit hour tuition for online courses is $425. Bellevueââ¬â¢s BA in Graphic Design program requires 127 total credits for degree completion, so this is one of the pricer options on our list. Additionally, their website is a bit vaguer than some other institutionsââ¬â¢ about how transfer credits work, though. They recommend that prospective students consult with an admissions counselor to determine which credits are eligible for transfer. Bellevueââ¬â¢s online BA in Graphic Design is probably the best example of a program on our list that is going to have some ââ¬Å"hiddenâ⬠costs that you want to be aware of before you decide to enroll. The universityââ¬â¢s website says that the online Graphic Design degree program requires the use of ââ¬Å"industry standard graphic design software and hardware.â⬠The websiteââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"Curriculumâ⬠page gets more specific about these technology requirements, and youââ¬â¢ll definitely want to look over those before deciding to enroll! #6: PlusOne B.S./M.S. in Civil Engineering, Northeastern University Somewhat similar to Southern New Hampshire Universityââ¬â¢s online bachelorââ¬â¢s in accounting, Northeastern offers students the opportunity to accelerate completion of the bachelorââ¬â¢s degree by applying graduate credits taken as an undergraduate toward both the undergraduate and graduate degrees. This is called the PlusOne program at Northwestern, and the bachelorââ¬â¢s of science and masterââ¬â¢s of science in civil engineering is one of the many degree programs offered through the program. Now, this option is probably the most similar to a traditional, four-year bachelorââ¬â¢s program on this list. If youââ¬â¢re looking specifically for the opportunity to finish a masterââ¬â¢s degree at an accelerated pace, rather than to finish a bachelorââ¬â¢s degree quickly, the PlusOne degree program options might work out for you. So how does the PlusOne program work? Well, by enrolling in the PlusOne program, students can earn up to 16 credits toward a bachelorââ¬â¢s and masterââ¬â¢s degree, allowing them to earn their masterââ¬â¢s one year sooner than they would in a traditional masterââ¬â¢s program. So, youââ¬â¢d be looking at five years to completion of both your bachelorââ¬â¢s and masterââ¬â¢s in the PlusOne program. The PlusOne program would also offer you a thriftier option. Since the 16 credits count toward both your bachelorââ¬â¢s and masterââ¬â¢s, youââ¬â¢ll be paying for fewer classes! And hereââ¬â¢s another plus (no pun intended): When students successfully complete the requirements for the bachelorââ¬â¢s degree in their field in the PlusOne program, they receive guaranteed admission into their graduate degree program. Northeastern offers a lot of PlusOne programs in addition to the B.S. and M.S. in Civil Engineering. If civil engineering isnââ¬â¢t the path you want to pursue but youââ¬â¢re interested in the PlusOne program, browse the extensive program listings on the PlusOne website! 3 Things to Watch Out for When Picking an Accelerated Degree Program Weââ¬â¢ve already talked about how confusing it can be trying to navigate the many different options out there for accelerated degree programs. On top of everything weââ¬â¢ve already covered, we also want to share three things that itââ¬â¢s really important to watch out for or look into as you choose a program, college, or university to pursue a degree through. A sad truth about institutions of higher education in the U.S. is that not all of them have your best interest in mind. Some are even considered predatory! We want you to know how to sniff out the bad eggs for yourself and how to determine that a school or institution provides everything you need to be successful. Thatââ¬â¢s why weââ¬â¢ve developed this list of three things to watch out for as you research fast online degrees. #1: Say No to For-Profit Colleges This is our biggest warning: stay away from accelerated degree programs at for-profit colleges! Oftentimes, when you do an Internet search for an accelerated bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online, for example, the very first results youââ¬â¢ll get will be ads for for-profit colleges. What is a for-profit college? For profit colleges are typically owned and operated by private companies or shareholders who are expecting to make a profit off of you- the student. For profit schools sell a product: their education. And, who are the customers? The students who enroll and pay for that education. Basically, for profit collegesââ¬â¢ primary goal is to make money. Thatââ¬â¢s why we recommend that you find a program at a nonprofit college or university instead. And, remember this: you can Google any college, university, or program and find out if it is for-profit. We strongly encourage you to do this before you get too invested in the idea of a particular program or university- itââ¬â¢ll save you time, money, and heartache in the long run. #2: Make Sure the Program Is Accredited Before you enroll in any degree program at any college or university, you need to make sure it is a regionally and nationally accredited institution and program. The purpose of accreditation is to ensure that the education provided by institutions and programs of higher education is meeting acceptable levels of quality. Making sure the institution or program youââ¬â¢re enrolling in is accredited matters because employers may question your career preparedness and the quality of your education if they see you have a degree from an unaccredited institution or program. Plus, students enrolled in unaccredited institutions canââ¬â¢t get federal financial aid, and if you ever wanted to transfer to an accredited school, they likely wonââ¬â¢t accept your credits. So how can you make sure you donââ¬â¢t accidentally enroll in an unaccredited institution or program? Though the U.S. Department of Education does not accredit educational institutions or programs itself, the Department does review all federally-recognized accrediting agencies and maintains a database of accredited schools and federally-recognized accrediting agencies. If you are unsure about a schoolââ¬â¢s accreditation status or whether its accrediting agencies are legit, you can search for both in the government database. #3: Get the Full Scoop on Cost of Attendance After reading our list of six accelerated degree programs, youââ¬â¢ve probably realized that every fast degree program is different: there are different requirements for admission, different enrollment periods and term lengths, different rules about transfer credit...and different fees you have to pay to enroll as a student. If youââ¬â¢re completing an accelerated bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online through an institution, it might seem like you shouldnââ¬â¢t have to pay any fees besides tuition per credit hour. Sadly, there are almost always additional fees you have to pay to enroll in a degree program, even if youââ¬â¢re doing distance education. To avoid receiving a surprise bill, carefully read all of the online info about cost of attendance through the degree program youââ¬â¢re looking into. You also want to consider additional costs for materials or supplies you might need that you wonââ¬â¢t have to pay the college or university itself, but that will be essential to your successful completion of your degree. Stuff like this might include a laptop or computer, headphones, or eBooks or subscription packets to learning modules. Adding up all of the costs- including the ââ¬Å"hiddenâ⬠ones- will alleviate a lot of stress once you actually get into your degree program and donââ¬â¢t want money worries lingering over your shoulder. The other finance-related thing we want to recommend is that you contact the financial aid office at the institution where youââ¬â¢re enrolling. A lot of students assume that there arenââ¬â¢t scholarships or other financial aid opportunities available for students who are getting an accelerated bachelorââ¬â¢s degree online, but that just isnââ¬â¢t universally true. Make phone calls, send emails, and ask questions. You might stumble upon a great funding opportunity that will save you money as you complete your degree! What's Next? Do you have the need for speed? Describing a Memorable Meal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Describing a Memorable Meal - Essay Example à The reason is that all of these things came around once each year so it was more like a ritual or a habit rather than a celebration. The time that I remember the most is when my family and I went on our holiday out of the country. It was to a small island located in the Caribbean, and it was a special moment in my childhood. The setting was remarkable as the waves crashed against the shore while a magnificent sunset occurred daily. There was one restaurant on that island that I shall never forget because of the awesome feeling I got from the delicious food that they served. Once we arrived to eat, the waiters and waitresses came to take our order. My siblings and I were given permission from our parents to select whatever dish or dishes we wanted because we would likely never be able to return here again. As all kids do, I immediately fixed my eyes on the most expensive item on the menu. It did not occur to me at that young age that price doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily equate to quality, but that did not matter to me. I was feeling famished and I couldnââ¬â¢t wait to tuck into the most delicious dinner dish I had ever tasted. While we were waiting for our food to arrive, we noticed the ambiance in this particular restaurant. There was a young lady quietly playing the violin over in the corner, while the flickering lights created a sense of calm over the whole place. After some time our food was brought out to us; not the main course, just the entrà ©e. As I chose not to order one of these, I had to wait a little bit longer for my food. After the rest of my family had finished their appetizers, we noticed a long-bearded man come into the room and begin to play his guitar. He was quite talented with this musical instrument, and the remarkable sound coming from his guitar kept our minds off the impending arrival of our main courses.à Ã

Ethnographic Claim Paper Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words
Ethnographic Claim Paper - Essay Example By doing this, they display a fluidity as far as identity is concerned and they test the traditional understanding of space. I chose this ethnographic study with regards to Italian culture at the Angeloââ¬â¢s and Vinciââ¬â¢s restaurant. The restaurant is in California and boasts of a total Italian ambience. What made it interesting as a research target was my swish to see how the people, including staff members and customers, performed within their cultural settings. Among the staff members at the restaurant and customers, I sought to study how the use of space in the restaurant becomes a performative site for Italian culture in their everyday lives. This led me to ask how the staff members and customers perform the Italian culture at Angeloââ¬â¢s and Vinciââ¬â¢s. The people at Angeloââ¬â¢s and Vinciââ¬â¢s demonstrate authentic Italian cultural practices using language and food. Theory Review Migration, especially in the contemporary period, challenges the tradition al comprehension of attachment of identity and place. Different observers have called for a re-examination of the uses and meanings of space as a concept during the discourse of identity (Appadurai 300). The process by which migrants create belonging among themselves shows a new conceptualization and organization of space, also referred to as re-territorialiazation of culture, as well as a redefinition of the collective identities that have undergone de- territorialization. Basch et al (28) frame the re- territorialization as a manner in which there is a reconfiguration of space by various practices, which migrants who migrate between different countries carry out. Anderson (83) deals with the discourses of resistance that are employed, by native or indigenous people, to negotiate for fixed notions of place or race. Just like subjective identity is produced form the performance, so also are localities created by the subjects who represent, perceive, and construct them, over time. Fo rtier (42) investigates the manner in which performance of one collective body utilizes terrains of belonging. He contends that belonging may be inclusive of physical places, although they are not limited to them. While they may utilize these physical places and these places do become belongings, they are more historical and cultural belongings that are reconstructed from cultural practices. Via the expansion of the theory by Butler on performativity, renegotiating space and identity can be seen as the way in which both space and bodies are invested to become representative of cultural identity. Therefore, belonging can be seen as a struggle that seeks to reconcile representation of groups in the way they are viewed by the rest comes close to the way that they view themselves (Basch et al 59). The struggle or negotiation concerning representation deals with simultaneous shifts in subjective identity, as well as its belonging. Concern over place could be especially potent in the cont ext of minority and immigrant communities that have little or no development of institutions. Racial stereotyping and racism could act as a hindrance to the ability of
